5 Batthyány Lajos Street, Esztergom
The plot’s development follows the surrounding buildings, which make full use of the street frontage and are built out to the edges of the site.
Inside the building, the functions are clearly separated and organized along a single corridor, thus creating the ribbon motif. The studio is located in the northern part of the plot and receives the diffused light essential for creation through a checkerboard-pattern system of windows placed on the street façade. In contrast, on the southern side of the site lies the exhibition and lecture space, which follows the shape of the plot, thereby forming an intriguing concave interior. On the upper floor, a residence for the artist has been created along with the creative terrace, which was realized by “juxtaposing wooden cross-sections.” On the ground floor, the exterior walls are clad with locally sourced stone, while on the upper floor this is replaced with a mounted wooden cladding.
