The network of Communal Storefronts reinterprets empty Nagykörút shops as covered public spaces, creating a transitional zone between street and city life. They aim to reactivate urban life, improve public spaces, and strengthen social ties. Open, flexible, and accessible, the storefronts follow Jan Gehl’s principles: transparency, inviting qualities, gradual unfolding, and opportunities for spontaneous or planned activities. They host cultural, educational, and social programs, provide free street-level restrooms, use recycled materials, and extend their impact to the whole Communal Boulevard through smaller interventions.
